Eating your words

We have been working on word families.  So far we have learned: at, ug, in, it, ot, op word families.  For example: Pin, tin, bin, chin (for the 'in' word family).

We use magnetic letters to make word family words.  The next day we review the word family and the students have to come up with the words on their own.  They write them on their sheet.  After they have filled up their paper with words, they use markers to trace over the words.

 Hunter tracing over his words

After st. trace the words, they use the snack that correlates with the word family to cover up the letters in the word family.  Brooklyn covering up the 'ug' words with Lucky Charms.

The final step, st. take turns reading one word at a time to their partner.  After they say the word, they get to eat the snack covering the word family.

We used Dots for the 'ot' word family and Skittles for the 'it' word family.

American Symbols

We did a directed drawling of the Statue of Liberty after learning about it.

We also learned about the American Flag.  We water colored the stripes and we used white paint for the stars.

We learned about the Liberty Bell and the Bald Eagle as well.

We are now learning about dogs!  We have studied about the boxer, border collie, golden retriever, Saint bernard, pug, and the German Shepard.

First we watched Dogs 101 on Animal Planet on the smart board

We read about each dog and then we write 2 facts we learned about each dog in our dog books.

 Building with 100 blocks

 We are 100 days smarter!!

Here are their capes with 100 items on them!

They filled a 10 frame up with "gumballs" and added all 100 to the gumball machine

We made portraits of what we would look like when we were 100 years old

Working on adding 10 dots to 10 different colors of paper strips to make 100 dots for our 100th day hats

We also made necklaces out of 100 fruit loops and covered a "pizza" with 100 toppings.  However, my camera is not cooperating and will not load some of the pictures.  All these activities helped the students count to 100 by ones and tens!

Valentines Day!

We were busy using candy hearts to practice math skills!
Sorting by color

 Making simple and complex patterns

Tallying how many of each color they had

Learning about even and odd numbers.
They figured out if they had a even or odd amount of candy hearts.

 Practicing counting by tens

Graphing to determine which color they had the most of

We played two different versions of this game.  First we rolled the dice and covered the number they rolled.  First person to cover up all the numbers won.  Then they started learning how to add numbers together.  They rolled two dice and counted how many dots were showing.  Then they covered that number up.  First one to cover up all the numbers won!
