September

We are already closing in on a month of school.   This week is a short week...no school on Friday.   We have been working very hard on preparing to read.  As we continue to prepare I watch students and assess them to determine which students should be grouped together according to their ability level and when they should begin reading.  I look to quickness of stretching letter sounds in unknown words, sight word recognition,  and remembering tips and tricks to stretching out words that we have learned.  This is why students are still to be working on letters and letter sounds every night.  Not because they do not know them, but because quickness of recalling letters and letter sounds is important in reading and for the diocese's assessments.
