50th Day of School!!

 

We had a busy day celebrating the 50th day of school.  Here is a peek into what we did!

 

 

Morning Work

We talked about how different the 50's were compared to today!  Here is our chart where we separated pictures from today compared to the 50's. (Please excuse the year saying it is 2011 haha)

I submitted a School Matters picture to WTAJ (channel 5).  The school matters segment is usually on around 6:30-6:50 a.m. during the week.  For Veteran's Day we made soldiers for the veterans at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.  We worked on making one soldier a morning for a month so we could give 30 veterans a gift!  When I dropped them off they were very thankful!  Hopefully we will we on the news!!

Halloween

We graphed the Kraft Halloween Macaroni.  It came with pumpkins, ghosts, and bats.  We graphed, counted, and compared how many of each we had.

 

 

 

 

Guided Reading

For the kiddos who are not ready to begin reading, we have been working on recognizing letters, letter sounds, and sight words.  

We are playing Letter Sound Parking Lot.  The students use Hot Wheel cars and "park" their cars in the letter or letter sound that is called.

Alphabet Arc: The kiddos color the letter that corresponds to the letter sound I called out

The kiddos had to read each sight word on the card to move to the next card.  Everyone made it through all 17 cards!!!

Bulletin Boards from September

Wondering what our classroom looks like right now?  We have been working on filling our classroom and hallway with all our wonderful work!!  We reviewed nursery rhymes and while we worked on Little Miss Muffet, we wondered where she went when the spider caused her to run away.  The kids wrote where they thought she ran.

 

We read No David and talked about being peacekeepers (which is our new program we are using in the school to prevent bullying).  We talked about what peacekeepers do and do not do in school.

 

 

 

 

Here is the view from across the hall.  They used pieces of tiny paper to cover each letter of their names.  We also watched Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and made our own coconut trees, BUT with our names on them!  They used stickers for each letter of their name and counted how many letters were in their name!

After learning about the letter T we made Tigers out of the letter T!  Preschool joined us for this art activity!

 

 

 

 

When we learned about 2D shapes we made these art projects:

 

Circle: School bus

Triangle: Pizza (with toppings of our choice)

Rectangle: Popsicle (we rounded the edges off to make them look more like Popsicles and we added some glitter to them)

Square/shape review: We made lions out of all the shapes we learned about

Our friend Carl missed a few of our activities from the week we did these activities because he was sick.  We were glad when he was back and feeling better :)
